New from summer 2026: Grade 7 at IMS
Authentic Montessori education, bilingual German-English learning, and an attractive full-day program: This will be available in the future until graduation at IMS in Berlin-Wannsee! Our school has embarked on the path to becoming a community school. We are now accepting applications for grade 7 in summer 2026 at ims.verwaltung@montessori-friends.de.
Dear young people, this is what you can expect in grades 7-10 at IMS:
- Consistent and contemporary Montessori education. We believe in you and your inner motivation. Use it to learn at your own pace with engaging materials, appropriate tasks that help you progress, and in mixed-age groups.
- Bilingual school life: Our lessons are taught alternately in German and English. Our teaching team and our student body are international and bilingual.
- After school, there is a wide range of extracurricular activities on offer, from woodworking and instrument lessons to sailing on Lake Wannsee.
- Feedback and mentoring that really shows you where you stand and what you can work on, instead of grades until grade 9.
- The opportunity to obtain all Berlin school-leaving qualifications, up to the Abitur (German university entrance qualification) at a partner school.
- Maria Montessori’s Earth Child Plan: Take on practical responsibilities, learn about different professions, and take advantage of our natural surroundings between water and forest.
- Spanish as a second foreign language starting in grade 7.

Our school location
IMS is and will remain small but excellent. Grades 7-10 will start on the 1st floor of the current school building. From 2028, additional rooms will be added within walking distance of our current school building for the IMS. The children in the elementary school and the young people in the secondary school will each have their “own” times and rooms, which are tailored to their specific needs. At the same time, we encourage interaction between the different grades through joint annual highlights, cross-curricular activities, and projects.
The timetable
Our daily routine combines the requirements of the state of Berlin for community schools with the structure of Montessori education. Subject-specific activities or laboratory work alternate with free work, in which the young people are free to choose their tasks, their place of work, and their partners within a given framework. Here they practice their independence, pursue their interests, and can devote the time they need to difficult tasks. We are currently coordinating the exact times for the secondary level with the Senate Administration. It could look something like this:

The approval process
The IMS is currently still a state-approved elementary school. As part of the conversion process, approval for secondary level 1 from August 1, 2026, has been applied for with the Senate Administration. As is usual in such processes, formal approval is expected in July 2026. We are confident that this approval will be granted. To be on the safe side, please also apply to another school as a “Plan B.”
Our team
Grade 7 will start in the summer of 2026 with a class leadership team consisting of two qualified teachers with experience in secondary education: Ms. Enayssi and Ms. Pakhuylu. Additional subject teachers will also be joining the team. The two are already looking forward to their new role and to meeting interested families at the open house on January 20, 2026, between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m.
