Our first sports day at IMS took place on 13 June. Organised by Mrs McEvoy, the children from all classes were divided into mixed-grade teams. Each team was assigned a colour. The children came dressed in their team colours. The anticipation and excitement was great.
At the beginning of the festival, Mr Delport welcomed the pupils and read out the Olympic oath. The motto of the sports festival was “Do your best together as a team“.
The sports festival took place from 9.00 to 12.00. Each station was supervised by a teacher and the following activities were carried out:
- Dribbling with the football
- Target throwing
- Skipping rope
- Shooting goals
- throwing basketballs.
At the end, every child received a gold medal.
At the end of the day, the children celebrated with a picnic where not only the pupils and teachers but also the parents sat together in the sunshine.
And what was the educational background to this campaign?
- Exercise and health play a major role in our school life
- Showing children that exercise is fun
- Promote team spirit
- Trying out new things, stepping out of their comfort zone and growing mentally and physically
- Positive sportsmanship, competition as togetherness and not against each other
- Play and movement are essential in Montessori education
